Frequently asked questions

Before you arrive at the dojo

Do I need previous experience?

No. Beginners can start from the fundamentals. If you already practiced another discipline or are returning after a pause, tell the instructor.

What should I bring?

Ask the dojo first. For an initial class, comfortable athletic clothing, water and a willingness to follow the space’s rules are usually recommended. The instructor will tell you when you need a karategi or additional equipment.

Does full contact start from the first class?

Kumite is an important part of Kyokushin, but preparation must be progressive. Participation, intensity and equipment depend on experience, age and the instructor’s judgment.

Can I train if I am not in good physical condition?

Condition develops by training. Tell the instructor about injuries, medical restrictions or long periods of inactivity so they can guide you responsibly.

Are there classes for all ages?

The offering varies by affiliate. Confirm directly with each dojo the age groups, schedules and requirements it currently maintains.

What if I do not have a dojo nearby?

Adults in Mexico can consider Ittai Dojo’s virtual classes as an alternative when there is no nearby affiliate.
