Guest of honor

Shihan Roman Szyrajew

Shihan Roman Szyrajew, 8th dan, is Branch Chief of So-Kyokushin in Canada. He began training around 1969 in Quebec with Sensei Roger Lesourd, who brought Kyokushin to that province after returning from Japan.

In 1980 he joined Shihan Shigeru Oyama in Fairfield, Connecticut, and trained under him for more than ten years. At the 1991 World Tournament he met Sosai Masutatsu Oyama, who appointed him Canadian Branch Chief. At the 1993 Yugawara camp, Sosai Oyama graded him to godan and awarded him the Kyoshi certificate.

He is known for demanding classes in the classical style and has led seminars and dan examinations in Mexico, Russia, Europe and other regions. On Sunday, November 22, he will be with So-Kyokushin Mexico to pass on that same line of Budo Karate.
